FAQ

Can I be a part-time BC realtor?
Yes - many BC realtors start part-time while maintaining other employment. BCFSA requires the same licensing (course + exam + brokerage) regardless of hours worked. Many new realtors work part-time for 1-2 years while building client base, then transition to full-time. Part-time realtors typically have lower income ($20,000-$60,000 GCI) but the flexibility to balance other commitments (BCFSA; BCREA, 2026).

What is the difference between a realtor and a real estate agent in BC?
In BC, all licensed real estate professionals are technically 'Real Estate Trading Services representatives' or 'Real Estate Brokerage' licensees. 'Realtor' is a term used by members of the British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA), which is a voluntary professional association. To be called a 'realtor,' you must be a BCREA member (separate annual dues). BCREA membership provides: code of ethics enforcement, professional standards, education, advocacy, MLS access (in some areas). All 'realtors' are licensed real estate agents, but not all licensed agents are BCREA 'realtors' (BCREA; BCFSA, 2026).
