The pattern is so consistent that College Board's annual release calendar is essentially a math problem once you know it — and once you know it, the deadline math that picks your last SAT date stops being a guessing game.

When do SAT scores come out?
Digital SAT scores do not release on the rolling 13th day after your specific test. They release on a fixed calendar of dates that College Board publishes each summer, and the 13-day lag is the average that produces a Friday release — not the rule. The reason Friday is the universal landing day is operational: College Board batches score reporting into a single weekly window, weekend test dates count from the Monday after, and the post-publication window for score sends falls cleanly into the following week.

The lag also accommodates the score-send pipeline. Sending scores to colleges takes an additional 1–2 weeks, so a Friday release followed by Monday-morning sends gives admissions offices a stable intake rhythm. The pattern holds across the entire digital SAT era and shows no sign of changing for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Spring 2027: What's Confirmed and What Isn't
College Board has published the spring 2027 test dates (March 6, May 1, June 5, 2027), but the exact score release dates for those weekends typically appear in February 2027. The projected windows based on the 13-day Friday pattern:

What Time the Scores Actually Post
College Board commits to a release date, not a release time. In practice, scores begin appearing in your College Board account around 8 AM Eastern Time on release day and post in waves over the morning. A blank score page at 8:15 AM ET is normal — the batch roll-out takes hours, and refreshing repeatedly does not speed it up. If your score is still missing 24 hours after the official release date, contact College Board customer service; most late-arriving scores post within 24 hours of the headline.
The Deadline Math That Picks Your Last Test
The decision rule that turns the calendar into a single test-date answer. If your application deadline is November 1 (Early Action, Early Decision, restricted scholarships), the last reliable test date is October 3, 2026 — scores release October 16, leaving two weeks for score-send processing. The September 12 test (released September 25) is comfortable for early deadlines with margin; August 22 is the only earlier option for seniors applying to schools with hard November 1 cutoff dates.
If your deadline is January 1 (regular decision at most schools), the last reliable test date is December 5, 2026 — scores release December 18. If your deadline is later (March or rolling admission through April), the May 1, 2027 test is your last practical option. The June 5 test, while published, scores too late for most regular-admission cycles and is reserved for transfer, freshman-year re-application, or schools with rolling admission.
The trap to avoid: assuming that taking the SAT late in the cycle means submitting your application on time. The score has to arrive, then be sent, then be processed by the admissions office, then be added to your file — and the second step is where the silent delays live. Two weeks between score release and deadline is the minimum that survives contact with reality.
Why Scores Don't Arrive on Release Day
Three reasons, in order of frequency. The most common: two College Board accounts. Students who create a second account to register for a future test, or who switch emails without merging, routinely find that scores land in the older account. The second most common: investigative hold on the test, which College Board places when registration details, accommodations review, or payment processing takes longer than the standard cycle. The third: late registration processing, which can delay the entire reporting window by 24–72 hours.
The right response is not panic-refreshing the score portal. Wait 24 hours past the official release date, then sign into every College Board account you have ever created and check each one. If the score is still missing, contact College Board customer service with your registration number, test date, and the email on your account.
How to Check, School Day, and Score Sends
Scores appear in your College Board account at studentscores.collegeboard.org — the same account you used to register for the SAT. Open the My SAT section to see your total score plus Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math section scores. SAT School Day students can also use the BigFuture School app to view scores; the same login credentials work across both portals.
Score sends: College Board includes four free score sends within nine days of each test date (the "rush window"). After the nine-day window, sends cost $14 each. Score sends typically take 1–2 weeks to reach colleges; plan to send at least two weeks before any deadline. The free-send window is the cheapest four-score package in college admissions, and using it requires no justification — just selecting the schools in the score-send portal inside the nine-day window after your test.
