CTET Certificate Validity Change — The 2021 Update

Until 2021, CTET certificates were valid for 7 years from result declaration. On June 3, 2021, CBSE issued a notification changing this:

• Old Rule: CTET certificate valid for 7 years from result date.
• New Rule (June 3, 2021 onwards): CTET certificate valid for lifetime.
• Implementation: The lifetime validity applies to all certificates issued from 2011 onwards. Candidates who had expired certificates don't need to retake CTET.

This was a major relief for lakhs of teachers who no longer need to retake CTET every 7 years. If you cleared CTET in 2011 or later, your certificate is now valid for life.

What Jobs Can You Get After Qualifying CTET?

CTET qualification is mandatory for teaching positions in:

• Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs): Central government schools run by the Ministry of Education.
• Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs): Residential schools run by the government for gifted rural students.
• Central Tibetan Schools Administration: Tibetan schools across India.
• Sainik Schools: Military-style schools run by the Ministry of Defence.
• State Government Schools: Most states require CTET for TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) recruitment.
• Private Schools (CBSE Affiliated): Most CBSE-affiliated private schools prefer CTET-qualified teachers.
• Central Government Schools (e.g., Aided Schools): Schools receiving government grants.

After qualifying CTET, you need to clear state-level TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) for state government teaching jobs. Most states accept CTET in lieu of TET, but some require both.

• Math & Science: Strengthen concepts up to Class 10 level. Focus on pedagogy and teaching methods.
• Previous Papers: Solve the last 5 years' CTET papers — patterns repeat significantly.
• Mock Tests: Take 10-15 full-length mocks before the exam. Time management is key.
• NCERT Books: For EVS (Paper 1) and Social Studies (Paper 2), NCERT textbooks from Class 6-8 are essential.
