- PF Deduction: 12% of basic salary (₹1,800/month) is deducted towards Employee Provident Fund. Employer matches the same amount — total ₹43,200/year goes into your PF account. VPF (Voluntary PF) is allowed up to 100% of basic.
- Income Tax (Old Regime): With ₹3.36 LPA and proper 80C investments (₹1.5L PF + ELSS etc.), your taxable income drops below ₹2.5L, making you effectively tax-free.
- Income Tax (New Regime): Under the new slab, the standard deduction of ₹50,000 and rebate under Section 87A keep most TCS freshers in the zero-tax zone for the first year.
- Professional Tax: ₹200/month (₹2,400/year) — applicable in most states, deducted from your salary.
- ESI: Not applicable for TCS as base pay exceeds the ESI threshold of ₹21,000/month.
- Gratuity: Accrues at ₹14,600/year for TCS Ninja and is fully exempt under Section 10(10) up to ₹20 lakhs.
TCS NQT Selection Process & Cutoff (2026)
TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) is the gateway to TCS for nearly 40,000+ freshers every year. Understanding the selection process and cutoffs helps you strategize preparation.
- Registration: Through TCS NextStep Portal — open throughout the year with multiple test windows.
- Foundation Section: Numerical ability (26 Qs), Verbal ability (24 Qs), Reasoning ability (30 Qs) — 75 minutes, no negative marking.
- Intermediate Section: Advanced quantitative + coding MCQs (10 Qs) — 15 minutes.
- Advanced Section: 1-2 coding problems (language of choice from C/C++/Java/Python) — 30 minutes.
- Interview Rounds: TR (Technical), MR (Managerial), HR — typically conducted together for the Ninja track.
- Selection Ratio: Approximately 1 in 4 registered candidates clear NQT; final interview selection ratio is around 1 in 12.
The TCS Digital and Prime profiles add a separate coding round and system-design discussion during the interview stage, with cutoffs typically requiring 75%+ in the foundation section and 90%ile+ in coding.
How to Prepare for TCS NQT 2026 — Section-Wise Strategy
Preparing section-wise with the right weightage is the fastest path to landing TCS Digital or Prime. Here's a proven 8-week preparation plan.
- Aptitude (Quantitative): Focus on percentages, profit/loss, time/work, ratios, and permutations. TCS repeats patterns from past papers — solve at least 15 previous NQT papers.
- Verbal Ability: Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar (error spotting), and sentence completion. Aim for 18+ correct out of 24.
- Reasoning: Puzzles, seating arrangement, blood relations, coding-decoding, and syllogisms. Time-management is the differentiator here.
- Coding: Practice array operations, string manipulation, sorting, searching, and basic DP on HackerRank and TCS iON. Premium tracks push to medium-difficulty DSA (trees, graphs, BFS/DFS).
- Interview: Revise OOP, DBMS (normalization, SQL joins, ACID), OS (processes, threads, deadlock, memory management), and your final-year project in depth.
- Mock Tests: At least 30 full-length mocks under timed conditions — base vs digital cutoffs differ by ~15 percentile points.
Career Growth Path at TCS — Year 1 to Year 5 Salary
One of the most common fresher questions is: "What will my salary look like in 5 years at TCS?" Here is a realistic progression, assuming on-time promotions and consistent performance ratings.
| Year | Role / Grade | Expected CTC (Ninja) | Expected CTC (Digital) |
|---|
| Year 1 | System Engineer Trainee | ₹3.36 LPA | ₹7 LPA |
| Year 2 | Assistant System Engineer (ASE) | ₹4.25-4.75 LPA | ₹8-8.5 LPA |

| Year 4 | IT Analyst | ₹6.5-8 LPA | ₹11-13 LPA |

Additional FAQs on TCS Fresher Salary 2026
Does TCS pay a joining bonus for freshers?
TCS does not typically pay a cash joining bonus for off-campus hires. However, students who complete TCS NQT through campus placements may receive a one-time incentive of ₹10,000-25,000 depending on their college tier and NQT percentile.
What is the probation period at TCS for freshers?
TCS has a 6-month probation period for freshers. During this period, your increments are typically pro-rated, and confirmation depends on both project feedback and an ILP evaluation. Successful probation triggers your first increment cycle.
Is TCS Ninja better than Accenture ASE for freshers?
For first-year take-home, Accenture ASE (₹4.5 LPA, ~₹28,000 in-hand) is materially better than TCS Ninja (₹3.36 LPA, ~₹21,000 in-hand). However, TCS Digital (₹7 LPA) and Prime (₹9 LPA) outpace Accenture Specialist for top performers — so the comparison depends on whether you join the standard or premium track.
Can I apply for both TCS NQT tracks (Ninja and Digital) simultaneously?
Yes, TCS allows candidates to attempt the foundation section once and then qualify separately into the Ninja (default) and Digital/Prime profiles based on percentile and coding performance. The advanced coding section is required only for Digital and Prime profiles.
Does TCS offer relocation and accommodation for freshers?
TCS does not provide accommodation but offers a relocation allowance of ₹15,000-25,000 plus travel fare reimbursement for freshers posted outside their home city. Most TCS offices have tie-ups with nearby PGs and rentals — HR connects you with verified listings during onboarding.
What happens to TCS fresher salary during the bench period?
Good news: TCS pays full in-hand salary during the bench period (no deductions for non-billable time). However, you may not receive performance bonuses or shift allowances that project-allocated employees get. Use the bench period for certifications and upskilling.
