No native resource scheduling or capacity planning
Harvest does not show when a person is overbooked across projects. The platform has a team view that lists who is on what project, but it does not show the percentage of a person week allocated to billable versus non-billable work. Teams that bill by the hour and need to know who is running out of capacity will need a separate resource-scheduling tool. Float and Runn are the two most common add-ons.
Per-user pricing scales against you as the team grows
Harvest charges 12 dollars per user per month for the Pro plan, billed annually. A 10-person agency pays 1,440 dollars per year, and the price is per active user, so contractors and part-time staff count if they tracked even 1 hour in the month. A 50-person agency pays 7,200 dollars per year. PSA tools like Productive and Scoro bundle time tracking, project management, and resource scheduling for a similar price, which makes Harvest a poor value for large teams.
Best Harvest alternatives in 2026
Clockify for the cheapest free option
Clockify is the best free Harvest alternative. The free plan supports unlimited users and unlimited projects, which makes it the only serious free time tracker. The platform has the same browser extension, the same mobile app, and the same Slack integration. The Pro plan is 5.49 dollars per user per month, less than half the price of Harvest. The catch is no built-in invoicing. Teams that need invoicing on a free plan should pair Clockify with Wave or Invoice Ninja. Teams that need invoicing built in should stay on Harvest.
Toggl Track for the cleanest interface
Toggl Track is the best time tracker for teams that value a clean, simple interface. The platform has the best mobile apps, the best calendar integration, and the best team dashboard. The free plan caps at 5 users, which is the main limitation. The Starter plan is 9 dollars per user per month. Toggl does not have built-in invoicing and does not have a QuickBooks integration, so it is the wrong choice for an agency that needs the full invoice-to-payment loop.
Timely for automatic time tracking
Timely uses AI to track time automatically from the tools a team already uses, which removes the need to start and stop a timer manually. The platform pulls activity from calendars, email, project-management tools, and document editors, then groups the activity into suggested time entries. The team reviews the entries and clicks approve. The drawback is the price, 11 dollars per user per month on the Automatic plan, and the workflow shift for teams used to manual timers. Timely is the right choice for a team that hates starting and stopping a timer and is willing to pay for the AI to do it.
Productive for end-to-end PSA
Productive is the best Harvest alternative for agencies that need a real PSA tool. The platform bundles time tracking, project management, resource scheduling, project profitability, and retainer management. The price is 9 dollars per user per month on the Professional plan, less than Harvest Pro. The catch is the learning curve, since Productive is a full PSA, not just a time tracker. Agencies that outgrow Harvest should look at Productive, Scoro, or Accelo as the next step.
Verdict: who should pay for Harvest in 2026
Pay for Harvest in 2026 if you are a small or mid-size agency that needs invoicing and online payment built in, runs on QuickBooks or Xero, and tracks billable hours for 5 to 50 people. Skip Harvest if you are a freelancer, a large team, or a project-driven agency that needs resource scheduling. Use Clockify if you want a free time tracker. Use Toggl if you want a clean interface. Use Timely if you want automatic tracking. Use Productive or Scoro if you need a real PSA tool.
