Deployment time and operational overhead
Wiz deploys in days. API-based posture scanning requires no agent installation. A typical 50-cloud-account environment is fully onboarded in less than two weeks. Runtime defense deploys additional weeks if you want the eBPF agent layer.
Prisma Cloud deploys in weeks. CSPM onboarding is fast because the agentless layer reads cloud APIs. Runtime defense requires Defender deployment on every workload, which adds weeks for large fleets with thousands of containers. Plan for 6 to 12 weeks total for a full CNAPP rollout with both posture and runtime.

Wiz fits cloud-first organizations that want immediate visibility without deployment friction. Greenfield cloud deployments, scale-ups, and security teams that have to show ROI in 90 days typically pick Wiz. The agentless architecture dramatically shortens time-to-value, and the Security Graph correlates findings in a way that traditional CSPM tools cannot.
Prisma Cloud fits mature enterprises that need full CNAPP with runtime maturity. Organizations with thousands of containers, regulated industries with heavy audit burden, and Palo Alto shops already running XSIAM or XDR typically pick Prisma Cloud. The Defenders have been in market since 2019 and integrate tightly with Palo Alto's broader security ecosystem.

Negotiation tactics for either platform
For Wiz: Document your cloud footprint precisely (accounts, workloads, data assets, identities). Volume-tier breakpoints exist but are not published. Time your negotiation around your fiscal year-end. Multi-year commitments typically yield 15% to 25% off initial quote.
For Prisma Cloud: Map your required modules to credit consumption in writing before signing. Palo Alto will help you estimate but you should verify by inspecting the credit consumption logic in their published Enterprise Edition Credit Guide. Avoid overbuying credits by starting with Foundations, then activating Advanced and runtime Defenders as your scope matures.
